Property Tax petition video: Mary Lou McDonald urges 'Back the Bill to Axe the Tax'
'I am calling on all parties and campaign groups to show their support for this Bill to axe the tax'
ON THE eve of the deadline for the registration of the Family Home Tax, Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has called on campaign groups and members of the public to back Pearse Doherty's Bill to repeal the unfair tax.
Speaking to An Phoblacht, Mary Lou said:
“Before the summer break, the Dáil will discuss Pearse Doherty’s Bill which would repeal the tax and return any payments made by households this year. Sinn Féin is clear – this is the only way to defeat the Family Home Tax."
Mary Lou said that, with one in four households in the state finding themselves in mortgage distress and a 14% unemployment rate, it is completely unfair to expect struggling families to pay this extra tax.
Mary Lou also called on members of the public to lobby their local TDs to support the repeal Bill:
“I am calling on all parties and campaign groups to show their support for this Bill to axe the tax and refund households who have paid this year.”
