THE Sinn Féin Ard Fheis takes place in Connacht for the first time ever this weekend when republicans from all over Ireland and overseas meet in Castlebar on Friday and Saturday.

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD’s keynote address will be carried on RTÉ TV at 8:30pm on Saturday evening.

Ard Fheis debates from the floor will also be televised live on Saturday morning from 11am to 1pm.

The Ard Fheis clár has 252 motions on a wide range of topics including:-

❑  The economy

❑  Public sector and political reform

❑  Family Home Tax

❑  Water charges

❑  The need for alternative, fairer revenue-raising measures such as a Wealth Tax.

The Ard Fheis will also discuss Sinn Féin’s strategy for Irish unity and the campaign for a Border Poll as part of the Good Friday Agreement.

Many ambassadors will be attending the Ard Fheis, including the Ambassador of Palestine to Ireland, as well as leadership figures from the African National Congress, Basque political party Sortu, and the leader in the Spanish Parliament of Esquerra, the Republican Left party of Catalonia.

The British Labour Party’s Shadow Secretary of State for the North of Ireland, Vernon Coaker, will also be there.
