Ian Milne signs in as new MLA for Mid Ulster
‘It is important that we build upon the Peace Process that was acknowledged 15 years ago this week through the Good Friday Agreement.’
SINN FÉIN MLA Ian Milne signed the register of new members at Stormont on Monday, officially replacing Francie Molloy – recently elected as an MP – as MLA for Mid Ulster.
From Bellaghy, south Derry, Ian went to the same school as H-Blocks Hunger Strikers Thomas McElwee and Francis Hughes. Ian was once on the ‘Three Most Wanted List’ of the British Army and the RUC along with close friend and fellow IRA Volunteer Francis Hughes
After signing the register, Ian said:
“It is an honour for me to represent the constituency of Mid Ulster. I pledge to carry on the work carried out on behalf of all the constituents by Francie Molloy and wish him well in his new role as MP for this constituency.
“I have been an active republican all my adult life and this new role will be testing but I am looking forward to the challenge.
“It is important that we build upon the Peace Process that was acknowledged 15 years ago this week through the Good Friday Agreement.
“I am committed to the pursuance of the republican goal of national reunification and the establishment of an Ireland of equals. I am confident the strategy pursued by Sinn Féin towards this end is the correct one and will succeed.”
