Derry nationalists under attack

By Murt McAstocker

A SHOOTING INCIDENT IN the Kilfennan area of Derry is thought to be the latest in a series of loyalist attacks against nationalists in Derry's Waterside. Four shots were fired outside the home of the Catholic family in the early hours of Wednesday morning 25 June. Although no one was injured the family are said to be terrified and in a state of shock.

Meanwhile nationalist residents of the Newbuildings area in Derry's Waterside have said that an atack on St Columba's Primary School in the area is part of a Loyalist campaign to intimidate residents from their homes. The school, which has suffered five attacks over the last two months, was targeted on Wednesday 18 June, when 22 windows were smashed. However the headmaster said the campaign against the school stretches back over a number of years. Sinn Fein's Lynn Fleming has called on nationalists to be vigilant and accused the loyalist organisers of a ``Protestant Civil Rights'' march in the city this week of provocation.
