An Phoblacht in the corridors of power
This framed copy of An Phoblacht from June 1981 has been put up on the Sinn Féin corridor in Leinster House. It refers to the election of two IRA prisoners to the Dáil that year on an Anti H-Block platform. Paddy Agnew was elected as a TD for Louth securing the highest number of first-preference votes (8,368) Kieran Doherty was elected as a TD for Cavan-Monaghan with the second-highest number of first preference votes (9,121). Kieran died on hunger strike in Long Kesh prison six weeks later.
