Gerry Adams signs West Belfast Anti-Racism Charter

WEST BELFAST MP Gerry Adams signed the ‘West Belfast Anti-Racism Charter’ on behalf of Sinn Féin this week.
The Charter draws its inspiration from the UN Declaration on Race and
Racial Prejudice. It says:
“Racism is any idea claiming racial or ethnic groups are superior or inferior and that some should dominate others. Racism includes racist ideologies, prejudiced attitudes, discriminatory laws and practices resulting in inequality as well as anti-social beliefs and acts.”
When an individual or organisation signs up to the Charter they are committing to opposing and condemning racism in all its forms and to:
‘Never engage in any racist words or actions whatsoever; Never to ignore the racism of others but to challenge racism wherever possible and wherever witnessed.’
