Dublin City Council’s protocol committee has agreed a motion proposed by Sinn Féin Councillor Seamas McGrattan that the Tricolour should fly over City Hall from dawn to dusk on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
“It was brought to my attention last Easter that the Tricolour was only flown over City Hall on Easter Sunday and was not raised on Easter Monday,” said McGrattan. “Whether this was an oversight, or a result of overtime cutbacks, the fact is that there is no excuse for City Hall not to fly the Tricolour for the weekend.
“Honouring the memory of the men and women of 1916 should be an important event in the city every year. Indeed, as we draw nearer the centenary, we should be stepping up, not scaling back, our commemorations.”
