Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff has encouraged party activists to get up and run for the Irish language by taking part in Rith 2010, the relay run across the island in support of the language. He added that Sinn Féin MLAs will be taking part in a run around Cnoc an Anfa (Stormont) as part of recognising the run and its ethos.
“As is now widely known, Gaeilgeoirí throughout the length and breadth of Ireland will be taking to the roads from Tuesday 9 March onwards to take part in a relay run around the country to demonstrate support for an Ghaeilge.
“This event, which commences in Belfast on this coming Tuesday, will cover many miles of Irish landscape and will reach its conclusion in Galway city on Lá Fhéile Pádraig. Sinn Féin activists all around Ireland will be proudly participating with countless others in this worthy endeavour.
“As a way of showing our own support for the language and as a symbolic gesture towards the An Rith 2010 event, Sinn Féin staff and MLAs at the Assembly Cnoc an Anfa (Stormont) will be participating in a lunchtime fun run for an Ghaeilge on the starting day.
“A sizeable number of our members will be donning their runners to pound the pathways of Cnoc an Anfa as a demonstration of our fervent support for the language and Rith 2010 and yet more will be at the starting line in Belfast”.
