FOYLE Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has described a meeting with senior management of Fujitsu in Belfast on Monday around job losses at the Derry plant as positive and encouraging.
Anderson outlined concerns that had been brought to her attention by workers at the Derry site including that of job security and the possibility of redundancies before Christmas.
Anderson said the company told her that they were in talks with workers to avoid compulsory redundancies where at all possible and while there may be notice of redundancies in December none would take effect before Christmas and the numbers would be minimal.
Anderson was also told that this situation is temporary and that Fujitsu is committed to increasing its workforce in Derry in the years ahead.
