Jack Lawlor Commemoration

BHÍ slua mór i mBaile Uí Thaidhg inniu ag comóradh bliantiúil Sheáin Uí Leathlobhair.  Thosnaigh an pharáid ag Leacht Cuimneacháin Ruairí Mhic Easmainn agus bhí searmanas ag Leacht Sheáin Uí Leathlobhair.  Ba é Martin Ferris aoi-chainteoir an lae.
Republicans from Ballyheigue and beyond gathered at the Jack Lawlor Memorial on 3 August to pay tribute to the local republican who was executed by Free State forces during the Civil War.
The march went from the Roger Casement Memorial and proceeded to the location where Jack was executed, adjacent to St James’s Cemetery where he is interred.
Cathaoirleach Paul Galloway said that their presence was testament to the esteem in which Jack Lawlor is still held. He also paid tribute to the memory of Roger Casement who was executed on this day in 1916.
Wreaths were laid by local republican John Drury and a minute’s silence was observed for all those who have given their lives for the freedom of Ireland.
The main oration was delivered by Deputy Martin Ferris who paid tribute to Jack Lawlor for his courage as an Irish republican.  He called on people to adhere to the principles espoused by Jack Lawlor and to remain faithful to his vision of a free and reunited Ireland.
The commemoration ended with the playing of Amhrán na bhFían by the Ballyseedy Martyrs Band.
