Michael Gaughan: Prepared to Fight or Die

This booklet honouring the late IRA Volunteer and hunger striker Michael Gaughan, is the second in a series of publications in An Phoblacht’s Irish Republican Legend  series. The first in the series commemorated the life of the late Brian Keenan.
It outlines the life and death in 1974 of Mayo man Michael Gaughan who died in Parkhurst Prison, England at the age of 24 as a result of force feeding after 65 days on hunger strike. It contains archive material from republican newspapers along with new material including an interview with one of Michael Gaughan’s comrades of the time Danny (Jack) McElduff and a comprehensive account of Michael Gaughan’s funeral.
