British incursion into Monaghan

In the latest cross-border incursion British soldiers conducted a search operation four miles into Co Monaghan in the early hours of last Saturday morning.

The dozen soldiers were dropped from a twin-bladed helicopter in the townland of Toneyfinnegan, near Emyvale. Eyewitnesses saw the soldiers get out of the helicopter and search with torches for.

The cross-border incursion has been slammed by local Sinn Féin councillor Owen Smyth who said it may have been an attempt to install surveillance equipment.
