SINN FÉIN Health & Children spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has urged Sinn Féin members and supporters to come out in force for the rally for a First Class Public Health Service in Dublin on Saturday 11 October.
Ó Caoláin told An Phoblacht:
“Cutbacks are being imposed on our public health services across the 26 Counties and the most vulnerable people are being hit hardest. Much worse is being threatened in Budget 2009.
“These cuts are being made in an already inadequate and grossly inequitable healthcare system. The 11 October rally is an opportunity to demonstrate opposition to cuts in the week before the Budget, to demand equal access for all based on need alone and to express solidarity with hard-pressed front-line health workers and patients.
“It is also an opportunity to demand cancer services that can command full public confidence, an end to the privat sation of our health services  –  including co-location – and support for local hospitals against the drive to centralise hospital services and deprive communities of those services.”
“I urge a full mobilisation for this rally.”
