Greening the North

GREEN LETTER DAY: Ógra give post boxes a facelift

GREEN LETTER DAY: Ógra give post boxes a facelift

ÓGRA Shinn Féin’s Green Post Box Campaign continues to spread across the North rapidly with more than 100 red post boxes now painted a more acceptable shade of green.
Young republicans in Tyrone are particularly keen in the current ‘green offensive’ with over half of all the green post boxes being in the O’Neill County.
Although the campaign was initiated by Ógra Shinn Fein, it has now been taken up by a fast-growing number of nationally-minded young people. It has also attracted a lot of attention and publicity, featuring in many local, regional and national newspapers as well as on talk radio. It has even earned some notice from DUP members.
An Ógra Shinn Féin spokesperson told An Phoblacht:
“The Green Post Box Campaign is intended to instil national pride in people and areas across the North. Every post box greened is a strong visible message that we live in Ireland and that our post boxes should be no different to those in Dublin and Cork.”
