OVER 1,200 farmers protested at Government Buildings in Dublin on Monday against EU Commissioner Peter Mandelson’s World Trade Organisation (WTO) proposals. The protest coincided with the visit of French President Nicholas Sarkozy.
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún lent her support to the farmers’ protest.
After speaking with protesting farmers de Brún said:
“The Mandelson WTO proposals will devastate Irish agriculture while doing nothing to help those in developing countries. Farmers rightly voiced their concerns about these proposals on the occasion of EU President Sarkozy’s visit to Ireland today and I am more than happy to lend them my support.”
