WOMEN’S valuable role within Sinn Féin has been underlined by a weekend training programme in south Armagh developing skills for activists in campaigning, media and party promotion.
The weekend was in response to demands from women activists and new women members for hard skills in helping them in their work in Sinn Féin and in their communities.
Eibhlín Glenholmes, National Co-ordinator for Gender Equality and organiser of the weekend, said:
“The women who came here this weekend already had the talent and the politics but it is unfair to expect anyone, woman or man, to perform their duties without adequate training.  We wouldn’t expect a surgeon, no matter how good they were, to operate effectively without the proper tools.”
And one Dublin Cúige member gave the weekend the thumbs-up.
“It was a great week-end with very practical training. I would highly recommend other women to attend. I am leaving with more confidence and knowing I am not alone. I’d give it 10 out of 10!”
