A WEEKEND of international solidarity activities to raise funds to bring a Palestine Select soccer team to the Second Anti-Racism Football Tournament at the West Belfast Festival in August has been held in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Organised by Dusseldorf Bhoys Celtic Supporters’ Club and Cable Street Beats, the event (on 11/12 January) attracted Irish republicans from Dublin, Kilkenny, Gorey and New Ross.
On Friday night, Pól Mac Adam played a storming set in McLaughlin’s Bar. This was well attended with people travelling from London as well as all parts of Germany. On Saturday, there was a brunch organised in the Hinterhof left-wing centre where people met to discuss various topics and struggles and exchanged ideas.
The Saturday night function was held in the AK-47 Club, which was packed out to see the Millentor Brigade from Hamburg play a rousing set of ballads, followed by Pól who played another special session.
Thanks to Ludi and Sarah for putting so much effort into organising the weekend, ‘Conehead’ for the tunes, Maier for being Maier, McLaughlin’s Bar, the AK-47 Club, Pól Mac Adam, the Millentor Brigade and everyone who made us so welcome.
