Dublin Bus dispute over

DUBLIN buses were running normally this week after drivers based at the Harristown Depot accepted Labour Court recommendations over two new bus routes affecting workers’ conditions.
The new routes will be monitored by local shop stewards over the coming weeks.

Christmas spot-checks for young pub staff

THE Employment Rights Authority is to monitor how young workers are being treated in pubs, restaurants and shops over the Christmas season.
The agency will be carrying out spot-checks to ensure that all employers comply with the rules and regulations in relation to employing young people. It is hoped that this will make sure employers pay the correct wages and allow the proper amount of break times to be taken.

Aer Lingus strike called off

WORKERS at Aer Lingus have called off their proposed strike action after a meeting of union officials and company management made some headway in resolving issues over the effects of cost-cutting plans.
The National Implementation Body invited all parties to the dispute to talks in Dublin. The conflict had originally begun due to Aer Lingus’s €20m cost-cutting plans that would have seen clerical staff and baggage handlers at Dublin Airport take pay cuts and work longer hours.
The NIB will be examining the freeze on pay increases and the effects of the Aer Lingus plans. Both sides are due to meet again on 28 November.
Even though Aer Lingus management have consistently argued that they need to cut costs in a competitive environment, airline CEO Dermot Mannion and other senior management figures have been awarded €4m of free shares this week as part of a management incentive scheme.
