Rally to demand Irish Language Act for the Six Counties

Bairbre de Brún

Sinn Féin MEP and Irish language activist Bairbre de Brún has called on everyone to come out in Belfast on 24 February to support the call for an Irish Language Act in the Six Counties.

De Brún explained:

“It is essential that there is a huge presence at this national march to demand equality and rights for Irish speakers.

“It is extremely important that the language act is powerful, based on legal rights and that adequate resources are available to implement it.

“We want the rights of Irish speakers to be protected as they are in the rest of the island and in Wales and Scotland.”

The march will meet at Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich at 1pm and march to Poets Square in the centre of Belfast, where it will be greeted by guest speakers, musicians and craic for all.

It will also be a celebratory event for children and families, with face-painting and entertainment provided. There will be Irish-medium schools and universities and Irish speakers from across the island there to celebrate our language and culture and to ensure our rights to be able to use our native language are enshrined in law.

Please attend and show your support for the Irish language.
