Clare Sinn Féin to select general election candidate

This Friday, 1 December Sinn Féin will select a candidate to contest next year's 26 County general election for the constituency of Clare.

The election convention will take place in the West County Hotel on at 8pm and will be chaired by former Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Alex Maskey MLA, a member of the party's Ard Comhairle.

All friends and supporters of Sinn Féin are invited to attend to give support to the candidate and to enjoy an evening of music, entertainment and craic.

Also in attendance will be Pearse Doherty, who represented Sinn Féin in the last European elections when he polled impressively in County Clare.

Conor O'Sullivan, spokesperson for Sinn Féin in Clare stated: "I have been inundated with questions from the local media about a Sinn Féin candidate in Clare since the summer. Now I am able to say definitively that Sinn Féin will be running a candidate in next year's general election and we will not be just making up the numbers.

"Like other political parties in the county we have been considering our options for some time. We now believe that we will be able to offer the people of Clare a radical alternative to the very conservative menu of candidates that they have already been served up."
