Máire Drumm remembered in Dublin
Members of Máire Drumm's family joined with republicans from across Dublin in Club na Múinteorí on Thursday 26 October for an evening of song and remembrance for Máire Drumm. The event, organised by Dublin Sinn Féin's Commemorations Committee marked the 30th anniversary of the assassination of the former Sinn Féin Vice President.
The room was packed for the event chaired by former Sinn Féin General Secretary Lucilita Breatnach. Willie Byrne sang at intervals against a background of a video illustration of various photographs of Máire and images from the early 1970s.
Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD gave a comprehensive historical account of the period leading up to Drumm's assasination in 1976, while Rita O'Hare who had shared time in Armagh prison with Máire, filled out the picture with a personal and moving presentation.
The evening also saw the launch of a booklet, Máire Drumm, Voice of Risen people, to mark the anniversary.
Joining the many Dublin republicans to remember Máire Drumm were visitors from the Basque country a representative of the Leonard Peltier campaign.
Máire Drumm, Voice of a Risen People is available from the Sinn Féin Bookshop, 58 Parnell Square, Dublin 1.
