Foreign embassies briefed on developments in peace process

Sinn Féin National Chairperson Mary Lou McDonald MEP and West Tyrone MLA Barry McElduff undertook a series of briefings with over 20 foreign embassies at the European Parliament in Brussels last Tuesday.

The briefings were organised by Sinn Féin's European Department to provide embassies with an up-to-date briefing on current developments in the peace process.

Speaking on Tuesday, Mary Lou McDonald said: "Today's series of embassy meetings provide Sinn Féin with an opportunity to brief national governments from across the world on the latest developments in the peace process. It is part of Sinn Féin's wider engagement with the international community. The fact that over 20 embassies have confirmed their attendance, including representatives from South Africa, Italy, Cuba and the Czech Republic is an indication of the level of interest in Ireland and the continuing peace process at an international level.

"There is a tremendous amount of goodwill to see the process succeed and it is essential that we build upon this in the time ahead."
