Aer Lingus privatisation

Speaking as Aer Lingus shares are formally admitted to the Official Lists of the Irish and British Stock Exchanges, Sinn Féin Transport spokesperson Seán Crowe TD expressed his regret that the Government has decided to 'push ahead with this unpopular decision despite numerous negative forebodings'.

Government must heed warning on job losses

Sinn Féin's Enterprise and Employment spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has called for the Government to heed the warning contained within the ESRI quarterly economic commentary regarding possible future job losses. Deputy Morgan also called for a significant shift in focus from multinationals to indigenous enterprise and for initiatives to upskill and retrain workers in vulnerable sectors of the economy.

Rural voter registration campaign

Sinn Féin also used the Ploughing Championships to launch a campaign aimed at encouraging people from rural communities to get on the electoral register. MEPs Mary Lou McDonald and Bairbre de Brún were joined by the party's spokesperson on agriculture Michelle Gildernew for the launch of a campaign.

Ó Snodaigh supports Zappone and Gilligan

Sinn Féin's Justice and Equality spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has expressed his support for the legal case being taken by Dr Katherine Zappone and Dr Anne Louise Gilligan in the High Court today. Ó Snodaigh condemned Justice Minister Michael McDowell for ruling out a constitutional amendment to give recognition to same-sex marriages.

Mayo Sinn Féin has established a new website.

The extensive website details all Sinn Féin policies, Mayo representatives, upcoming events as well as all the latest local and national Sinn Féin news. Calling the website "a valuable source of information for those interested in Sinn Féin politics", Councillor Gerry Murray added: "With the county on an election footing the people of Mayo are raising important issues such as the state of our health system, transport infrastructure and the privatisation of Mayo's services and natural resources. Sinn Féin policies and positions on these issues can be found on www.mayosinnfein.com."

Bessbrook demilitarisation

Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and Armagh and the Party's spokesperson on Demilitarisation Davy Hyland has today welcomed the news that the British Army has begun to dismantle the Helipad at Bessbrook in South Armagh.
