Large crowd on Glenshane Pass for McElwee anniversary

A large crowd gathered on the Glenshane Pass on Tuesday night, 9 August for a vigil to mark the 25th anniversary of the death on hunger Strike of Tom McElwee.

Mid Ulster MLA Geraldine Dougan said the large crowd and particularly the amount of young people who turned out showed how much the Hunger Strikers meant to the people of the area, 25 years on.

"People who were not yet born or were too young to remember the sacrifices made by these men continue to be moved by the courage, selflessness and dedication of volunteers like Thomas McElwee", she said
