Car crash fatalities ‘One of Donegal’s darkest days’ – Deputy Mayor of Donegal

SPEAKING after the deaths of eight people in a road traffic accident in Donegal on Sunday night, the Mayor of Buncrana and Deputy Mayor of Donegal, Sinn Féin’s Councillor Pádraig Mac Lochlainn, has conveyed a sense of shock across the Inishowen peninsula.

Councillor Mac Lochlainn said:

“Once again the community here in Inishowen has been devastated by a road accident. This is truly one of Donegal’s darkest days.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives and the family of the young man who is fighting for his life.

“This tragedy is a stark reminder for all to pay head to road safety programmes and the plethora of road safety advertisements and education programmes.  There must be a change in culture in terms of road safety.”

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has also extended his condolences to the families of the Donegal road crash victims.

“I extend my sincere condolences to all of the families so tragically affected by this awfull accident.

“While the focus of this terrible incident is on the high number of fatalities it is a very personal tragedy for the individual families that have been bereaved.

“All of the families are in my thoughts and prayers at this terrible time.”
