Foyle Sinn Féin manifesto launched

Sinn Féin General Secretary Mitchel McLaughlin launched his Westminster election manifesto for Foyle on Wednesday.

He pointed out that, following the Údáras na Gaeltachta election, Sinn Féin is not just the only all-Ireland party but the only party with representatives on every elective forum on the island.

"Moreover," he said, "supporting me here at this launch today we have a representative from each of those fora on the platform.

McLaughlin welcomed Cavan/Monaghan TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, Údáras na Gaeltachta representative Gráinne Mhic Géidigh, Donegal Councillor Pádraig Mac Lochlainn and Sinn Féin group leader on Derry City Council, Maeve McLaughlin.

The manifesto, he said, is his and the party's vision for the future growth and prosperity of the Foyle Constituency and the greater Northwest Region. "I specify the Northwest Region," he said, "because I do not believe that we can fully develop the potential of Foyle in isolation from our natural hinterland of Donegal and the other border counties.

The manifesto spells out the Sinn Féin position on Health Care provision, Education, Equality, Housing, Rural Development, Irish Language, the Environment and many more areas affecting the day-to-day lives of the citizens of Foyle.

Sinn Féin nominated its largest ever slate of candidates for Derry City Council on Tuesday morning. The party has 17 candidates standing across the constituency and aims to increase its representation in each of the wards.
