Ógra Flying Column mobilises against collusion

Ógra Shinn Féin activists from throughout Ireland travelled to Galway in a flying column style on Saturday 2 April to mobilise against collusion.

The mobilisation included a DVD presentation by anti-collusion group An Fhírinne, featuring accounts from family members of victims of collusion. Robert McClenaghan spoke to the assembled group of young activists about his personal experience of collusion through the murder of his grandfather in McGurk's bar in Belfast in 1971. He further described how collusion has affected over 800 people and has not been confined to the North, as evidenced by the Dublin/Monaghan bombings and the murder of Donegal Sinn Féin Councillor Eddie Fullerton.

The Ógra activists then marched from Galway University and held a peaceful protest in Eyre Square against collusion, where the crowd gathered were addressed by local Sinn Féin councillor Daniel Callanan.

Ógra Shinn Féin National Organiser Mickey Bravender said the idea of an Ógra Flying Column originates from dedicated Ógra activists travelling to towns and cities throughout Ireland to motivate and encourage the mobilisation of young republicans on current and relevant issues, such as collusion."

The Flying Column will travel to Cork next weekend for further mobilisation of young republicans.
