Waterside family attacked again

Sinn Féin candidate in the forthcoming local elections, Jim Logue, has called on unionist politicians and community workers to use their influence to put an end the sectarian attacks on a family in Derry's Waterside area.

Logue was speaking after William Irwin's family home in Heron Way on the Clooney Estate came under sectarian attack for the fifth time in three years.

In the attack on Sunday night, four hooded loyalists smashed the front living room window, a smaller kitchen window and a car windscreen.

Irwin said that after breaking the windows the loyalist thugs attacked his car with a hammer, causing considerable damage.

Irwin expressed concerns about his family's safety. "We are sick of these attacks," he said. "My young lad has had a number of kickings on his way to the local shops, as well as being punched in the face. He feels too intimidated to go out alone."
