Schoolboy kicked unconscious

Two schoolboys were hospitalised after a gang of up to 15 loyalist youths set upon them as they got off their school bus on Thursday 4 November at Newbuildings, just outside Derry City.

Four pupils from St Columb's College were returning home at 4pm when the loyalists confronted them. Two teenagers managed to escape, however the other two 13-year-olds were cornered by the loyalists, who kicked them to the ground. One of the boys was beaten until he lost consciousness.

Both boys were treated for their injuries in Altnaglevin Hospital.

According to the boys who escaped the gang, and other witnesses, most of the loyalists were wearing Glasgow Rangers football shirts and scarves, while at least four of the gang wore the uniform of Lisneal College, a Controlled School located in the loyalist Irish Street in the Waterside area of Derry.
