Louth Sinn Féin launches election candidates

A total of 15 candidates will be contesting the local elections in Louth on behalf of Sinn Féin. This is a significant increase on last time and is a sign of the growth of Sinn Féin throughout the County and the Country overall.

On Friday 19 March in the Westcourt Hotel, Drogheda, Sinn Féin officially unveiled those candidates.

The launch was attended by all the candidates, along with Louth TD Arthur Morgan, Sinn Féin Party Chairperson, Mitchel McLaughlin and Sinn Féin candidate for the Ireland East constituency in the European Elections, John Dwyer.

The theme of the launch was Building an Ireland of Equals. Mitchel McLaughlin spoke about the quality of the candidates and said he was was particularly pleased with the number of female candidates.

"Sinn Féin is a party of change," he said. "Increasing numbers of people are looking to us as an alternative to the self-serving politics of the conservative parties." He urged candidates not to be put off by negative campaigning and was confident that the people of County Louth would return an increased number of elected representatives in June.

He wished all the candidates well, including John Dwyer from Wexford, who is standing in the European Elections.
