Nationalists fear more collusion

Nationalist fears of collusion between unionist paramilitaries and authorities in the North's prisons were again heightened at the weekend when it emerged that a civilian worker at Maghaberry Jail was transferred from her post following a PSNI investigation into her friendship with a top loyalist.

The woman was removed from her post at the County Antrim prison on Monday 8 March after PSNI detectives arrived to interview her about her relationship with a former UVF leader, now linked to the LVF.

The woman has been transferred to another job within the British Government civil service while the PSNI inquiries continue.

The woman is the second female member of Maghaberry staff to be removed from her post because of associations with unionist paramilitaries.

Last October, a female prison warden was suspended on full pay over her suspected links to the then LVF boss in Mid Ulster, Robin 'Billy' King.
