Arrogant Cullen persists with electronic voting

The decision by the cabinet on Tuesday to proceed with electronic voting for this year's local and Europeabn elections has been slammed by Sinn Féin Dáil spokesperson on the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Arthur Morgan.

He said that the decision to proceed was entirely irrational in light of the growing concerns about the safety of the system.

"There seems to be little reason for this decision apart from Minister Cullen's deeply embedded arrogance," said Morgan. "He is simply refusing to back down despite the clear evidence that without a verifiable paper trail there is a lessening of public confidence in e-voting.

"At a time when voter turnout is dropping election upon election, the last thing we need to do is to further undermine public confidence. The Minister needs to abandon his gung-ho attitude and accept that there are real and genuine concerns that must be addressed in relation to electronic voting."
