Irish-American tour in Monaghan

A group of approximately 50 people representing the American organisation Noraid are in Ireland this week. Noraid is an organisation which campaigns for a united and peaceful Ireland across the United States. It is comprised of Irish-Americans and indeed many who have no family connection with this country but believe in the right of the Irish people to self-determination.

On Friday, the group will be in Monaghan, where they will attend a special dance in the Sliabh Beagh Hotel in Knocknatallon. All are welcome to this event at which music will be provided by the popular group Seanachaí.

The Noraid delegation is being hosted by Sinn Féin. Prior to arriving in Monaghan the group will visit South Armagh and other border areas to see at first hand the continued military occupation by the British Army and the RUC/ PSNI.

The guests will leave County Monaghan on Saturday where they will travel to Derry to participate in the commemorative events surrounding the anniversary of Bloody Sunday.
