Band with UVF links in Rasharkin parade

ORANGE ORDER CHALLENGED ON LOYALIST BANDS | THREAT ON FACEBOOK TO ANTRIM SINN FÉIN MLA

BY PEADAR WHELAN

BANDS with links to loyalist killer gangs were among the 40-plus loyalist bands that paraded through the Antrim village of Rasharkin on Friday night, 19th August.
Angry residents pointed to the participation of the Freeman Memorial Band, named after UVF bomber Geoffrey Freeman, who was killed along with three other men when their bomb exploded prematurely near Coleraine, County Derry, in 1975.
Sinn Féin Assembly member for North Antrim Daithí McKay called on the Orange Order to clarify its position on “bands with links to loyalist gangs that take part in Orange Order parades, year in year out”.
