Fógraí bháis - John McDermote

Republicans in East Mayo and West Roscommon have been greatly saddened by the recent untimely death of lifelong republican John McDermote of Aughadeffin, Kilmovee, Ballagadereen, County Roscommon. John worked quietly and diligently for the Republican Movement all his life and never wavered in his conviction that the only solution to Ireland's historic problem was the complete withdrawal of the British Government from Ireland and its affairs.

In his homily, local Parish Priest Father John Glynn described John McDermote as Man of great faith and a true Christian who could always be relied upon to come to the assistance of his neighbours and friends in their times of distress and need. The huge attendance at John's funeral was testimony to the high esteem in which his community held him.

Ballaghdeereen Republican Michael Mulligan presided at the graveside while Councillor Gerry Murray delivered the graveside oration.
