Release Brendan Lillis
SERIOUSLY-ILL PRISONER MOVED TO OUTSIDE HOSPITAL MARTIN McGUINNESS RAISES CASE WITH DUBLIN
WEST BELFAST MP Paul Maskey and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness have repeated Sinn Féin’s widespread call for the release of Brendan Lillis, a seriously ill prisoner who has been moved from Maghaberry Prison to an outside hospital.
Brendan Lillis is suffering from a debilitating arthritic illness.
Sinn Féin delegations have met with Brendan Lillis in Maghaberry Prison and with his family. The party has raised his case publicly with both the British Government and Justice Minister David Ford.
Martin McGuinness has also spoken to the Irish Government about Brendan Lillis’s case.
“I have pressed the Irish Government to use whatever influence that they may have, as a matter of urgency, to see that Brendan Lillis is released immediately on compassionate and humanitarian grounds.”
Paul Maskey MP said:
“David Ford needs to get a grip on this case. The advice he has been given to date by officials is clearly wrong. He now needs to do the right thing.
“He has the power to act and sort this situation out. He needs to release Brendan Lillis on compassionate and humanitarian grounds.”
