Tralee poll protest

Up to 20 members of Ógra Shinn Féin held a demonstration in Tralee on Saturday 3 May against the postponement of the Assembly Elections in the Six Counties. One member, Sean O'Shea described the anger that republicans and many people were feeling across this island at the announcement by Tony Blair that the Six-County elections would not be going ahead.

"It is very frustrating and annoying to hear a British Prime Minister lecture the people of this country about democracy, when he has denied Irish people the right to express their voting rights.

"We will be campaigning in the weeks and months ahead to ensure that the people on this island are given their rights and entitlements. On 29 May we will be holding peaceful demonstrations across the island, including Tralee, on the day that the people of the Six Counties should have been enjoying their right to vote for whom they choose."
