Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin challenged the Government on Tuesday to provide Dáil time to allow a proper debate on changes to Dáil rules. The Government made rule changes which copperfasten the exclusion of Sinn Féin TDs from full speaking rights in the Dáil, while Sinn Féin proposed changes to allow such full access. The Government put through its motion without debate. Ó Caoláin challenged the Green Party to prevail on its Government partners to allow an open debate. Anger mounts at destruction of Tara valley 
While hopes were raised that damage to the Gabhra Valley at Tara, County Meath recently named one of the world's 100 most endangered sites by the New York-based World Monument Fund, might be averted with the discovery of a National Monument at neraby Lismullen last month, these were dashed when former Minister for Environment Dick Roche approved the destruction of the Lismullen monument during his last hours in office. Derryman Charlie McMenamin against whom trumped up charges were quashed on appeal last month, has said the lengthy legal battle to clear his name has been worth it - if it means others are spared the abuses he suffered. McMenamin was speaking after three Appeal Court judges presented their final submissions to the High Court in Belfast in which they ruled the case against him should never have gone to trial.
