Political impasse: Governments need to face down DUP

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams was in Dublin on Wednesday last to launch the annual Easter Lily campaign. The event took place on International Women's Day to honour the women of Cumann na mBan who first introduced the Easter Lily and to celebrate the activism of women involved in political activity in communities across Ireland.

Neary report "damning indictment"

"A damning indictment" was how the Sinn Féin leader in the Dáil and the party's spokesperson on Health, Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin described the report of Judge Maureen Harding Clark in to the actions of former consultant Michael Neary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Ending sectarianism requires leadership

Sinn Féin' s Martin McGuinness has described Irish government proposals for an anti-sectarianism pledge as ''a good start', He said " If sectarianism is to be eradicated, we need to see an end not just to blatant sectarianism on our streets but the implementation of policies to address deep-rooted sectarianism and discrimination in employment and job creation, to end bigotry on some unionist dominated councils, to end all sectarian attacks wherever they occur and to completely end the activities of unionist paramilitaries. The key to all of this is political leadership."

Asylum seekers: Policy change feared as racist attacks continue

British government plans to send asylum seekers in the Six Counties to holding centres in Scotland and England without access to legal advice, have been slammed by human rights groups. Amnesty International and the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission have expressed concern at an apparent change in British government policy.

Dublin murder: Call for NUJ to investigate tabloid

Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillors, Dessie Ellis and Larry O'Toole extended condolences to the family and friends of Dublin woman Donna Cleary, brutally murdered in the city last Saturday night. They described as absolutely "malicious" and "highly insensitive" a front page story in Tuesday morning's edition of the so-called 'Irish' Daily Mirror, which ludicrously attempted to blame republicans for the shooting dead of Donna Cleary in the northside suburb of Coolock.
