Securocrats last ditch effort

In a so-called confidential briefing given to the North's policing board, widely reported in the media, PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Sam Kinkaid accused the IRA of being involved in, "organised crime".

Kinkaid joined the RUC in 1980/'81 at the height of the H-Block and Armagh Protests which lead to the Hunger Strikes and deaths of ten republican prisoners. He was appointed RUC Detective Superintendent with responsibility for all crime investigations in North Belfast and South Antrim.

Policing- Kelly outlines the challenge

With the British government due, next month, to publish enabling legislation and a consultation paper on the transfer of policing powers and the administration of justice to locally elected politicians in the North, in the event of the re-establishment of an assembly, Sinn Féin members gathered at a West Belfast hotel on Saturday, 14 January for a party conference on the issues of policing and justice.

SDLP accused of settling for less

The SDLP must come clean on their discussions with unionists about diluting the power sharing arrangements of the Good Friday Agreement, Sinn Féin's Conor Murphy told a Stormont press conference this week. Finucanes meet party leaders

The family of assassinated Belfast human rights solicitor Pat Finucane have described a series of meetings with political party leaders in Dublin on Wednesday 11 January as "very positive". Finucane's widow Geraldine and other family members met with the political parties as part of their long running campaign to force the British Government hold a proper inquiry into the 1989 killing.

Last Saturday witnessed an important milestone in the development of Sinn Féin's economic policy. A conference in Dublin, attended by Sinn Féin members, activists and public representatives from across the country, discussed a detailed draft policy document prepared by the party's Economic Policy Review Group.
