Thousands call for truth on collusion

The hard work put into organising Sunday's rally at Belfast City Hall paid off. One of the largest republican rallies in Belfast City Centre in recent times saw upwards of 10,000 people gather in front of the City Hall to hear Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams call on people to keep fighting for the truth.

March for the right to vote

I was only eleven in 1968, living across the Irish Sea in Britain, but I still remember the television images of the Civil Rights marches in the North of Ireland. Here was a place, I was told at the time, that was a part of Britain where ordinary people, who incidentally looked just like the people of my own neighbourhood, were marching on the streets for the right to vote.

PSNI search homes of former UDR soldiers

The homes of up to 30 former UDR soldiers have been searched by PSNI officers investigating the nearly 30-year-old killing of independent nationalist councillor Patrick Kelly. The PSNI are looking into claims that UDR soldiers were responsible for the shooting death of the father-of-four on 24 July 1974.

McBride mother brands British minister "a disgrace"

The mother of a north Belfast teenager killed by British soldiers in 1992 walked out of a meeting with John Spellar, the NIO minister with responsibilities for human rights, declaring him an "absolute disgrace". The meeting took place at Castle Buildings on Monday.

Report calls for end to asylum seeker detentions

A new report has called on the British government to end its practice of detaining asylum seekers at Maghaberry jail in Co Antrim while their applications are being dealt with. The report by the Law Centre, entitled Sanctuary in a Cell, revealed that since its previous report in November 2000, the number of people detained at Maghaberry has increased by 20%.
